Mount Everest is the highest peak on the world, rising 8,848.86 meters (29,031.69 feet) above sea level. It is situated in the Himalayas, on the Nepal-Tibet border (China). Sir George Everest, a British surveyor who served as Surveyor General of India from 1830 to 1843, inspired the mountain’s name.
Mount Everest has been a popular climbing destination since first successful ascent in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa from Nepal. Many climbers have attempted to reach the summit since then with varying degrees of success. Climbing Mount Everest, on the other hand, is a dangerous and difficult endeavor, and many climbers have died while attempting to reach the summit.
Despite its difficulties, Mt. Everest is a popular climbing and adventure destination. It is symbol of human perseverance and achievement.
